What is a PCA SKIN treatment for?
Your skin can experience many benefits from regular chemical peel treatments. PCA has formulations to suit all skin types including sensitive skin, and can aid the following:
- Acne
- Hyperpigmentation
- Ageing
These skin concerns may be improved by increasing the skin’s cell turnover, encouraging new cells to the surface, and in turn reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots, and improving skin clarity by clearing breakouts.
What happens during a chemical peel?
Your skin will be cleansed and toned. You have the option of adding in a bespoke advanced Lumineo LED session to enhance your results. As specifically chosen light therapy session bespoke to your skincare needs.
Then a carefully selected peel system will then be applied to your skin. The peel is self-neutralizing so it can remain on your skin. In a daytime appointment, you will have bespoke hydrating & soothing skincare products applied followed by daylight protection to protect your skin and keep your newly brightened skin looking its best
Some of the peel systems include an LED treatment, such as the retinol peel. A carefully selected peel system will then be applied to your skin. The peel is self-neutralizing so it can remain on your skin. In a daytime appointment, you will have SPF applied to your skin to protect it from the sun and keep your newly brightened skin looking its best.
What can I expect after a chemical peel?
- After receiving a PCA SKIN® professional treatment, you should not necessarily expect to “peel.” However, light flaking in a few localised areas for several days is typical. Most patients who undergo these treatments have residual redness for approximately one to 12 hours post-procedure.
- As with all peels and treatments, it is recommended that makeup not be applied the day of treatment, as it is ideal to allow the skin to stabilise and rest overnight; however, makeup may be applied 15 minutes after the treatment if desired.
- To minimise side effects and maximise results, use The Post-Procedure Solution for three to five days or until flaking has resolved.
- If the skin feels tight, apply ReBalance for normal to oily skin types or Silkcoat® Balm for drier skin types to moisturise as needed. For maximum hydration, you can apply Hydrating Serum under ReBalance or Silkcoat® Balm.
- Moisturiser should be applied at least twice a day but can be applied more frequently for hydration and to decrease the appearance of flaking.
- It is recommended that other topical, over-the-counter medications, or alpha hydroxy acid or retinol products not be applied to the skin seven days post-procedure, as they may cause irritation.
- Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat. It is recommended to use an SPF to protect your skin.
- Do not go to a tanning bed for at least two weeks post-procedure.
- Do not pick or pull on any loosening or peeling skin. This could potentially cause hyperpigmentation.
When will I see results?
Depending on the peel system, you may see some instant brightening or may take a few days for your fresh skin to appear post peel particularly if there is a shedding process.
When is it safe to have another chemical peel?
This will be discussed with you post-treatment.
Normally, a month’s interval is required before your next peel.
What preparation do I need prior to a peel?
Consult with your Carly if you are taking medication for your skin.
- Do not expose your skin to the sun for at least 2 weeks before treatment.
- Do not use tanning beds for at least 2 weeks before treatment.
- Do not undergo any other facial treatment for 2 weeks prior to a chemical peel treatment. This includes dermaplaning, microneedling, laser, facial fillers and facial waxing/threading.
- It is recommended that you temporarily discontinue the use of Retin-A, Renova, Differin, EpiDuo for a week before treatment. Products that contain high percentages of AHA and BHA (Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid) and all retinoids that are not part of PCA Skin®’s daily care range should be avoided for approximately 5 days before treatment. Please consult with your clinician before discontinuing prescription medications
Post Peel Advice
For up to 14 days following your treatment your skin may feel tight, sensitive, dry and you may experience mild flaking skin. This is normal. To avoid the risk of complications, please follow the below advice.
- Do not wash your face for at least 10 hours post treatment.
- Avoid direct sunlight and do not use a tanning bed for at least 2 weeks post treatment.
- Keep the skin cool – avoid heat, excessive exercise and swimming / steam room / sauna for up to 14 days post treatment.
For certain peels you can use the post procedure products supplied. Carly will confirm products to use post peel.
- Do not use facial oils, aqueous / emollient creams and avoid high percentage AHA and BHA products for up to 14 days post treatment.
- Do not undergo any facial treatments for at least 2 weeks post treatment. This includes dermaplaning, microneedling, laser, facial fillers and facial waxing / threading. Do not pick or pull peeling skin.
- Protect your skin with a broad spectrum SPF!
Daily Care Regimen
Using a complete daily care regimen will help you achieve your skin care goals. All PCA Skin® daily care products are formulated using ingredients that are naturally found in the body for maximum efficacy. All PCA products are free from parabens, synthetic dyes and fragrances, lanolin, mineral oils and petrochemicals.
PCA do not test or condone animal testing. Using PCA Skin®’s daily care products in the weeks before your professional treatment is an important step in preparing your skin and ensuring excellent results. Skin that is balanced and healthy will help reduce the risk of complications and typically lead to better treatmentresults.
Equally as important, post-treatment products are designed to be used after a chemical peel or other minimally invasive professional treatments to minimise the potential for uncommon side effects.
Professional peels are increasingly effective with pre- and post-treatment care, balancing your skin before the peel and nurturing it after the treatment.
